Quick Start Fuels Ferris State Women's Soccer To 10th Victory Of The Year

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team put up three first-half goals and rolled to a 4-1 triumph over visiting Parkside in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Friday (Oct. 18) afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

FSU sophomore Pia Nagel picked up a goal and had two assists in the win while senior goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield made seven saves in the victory.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 10-2-1 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC this season.

The Bulldogs got on the board early as Tia VanSuilichem scored her second goal of the campaign only 7:26 into the contest on a shot aided by both Maddie Fouts and Emily Mergener.

Soon after, FSU pushed the lead to two goals as Mackenzie Dawes put a shot past Parkside goalkeeper Adrianna Bratel off a feed from Nagel. It was her fourth goal of the year and came at 18:16 of the first half.

The Bulldogs tacked on yet another goal a little more than four minutes later when Fouts picked up her first goal of the season with the assist again credited to Nagel.

The score stood until 28:15 of the first half when Parkside got its only goal of the afternoon on Maycee Kroening's unassisted tally.

In the second half, the Bulldogs' Nagel recorded her ninth goal this season in the 71st minute with freshman Payton Price given the assist to account for the final score.

The Bulldogs held a 27-15 edge in total shots, including a 15-9 margin in shots on goal and had all five of the corner kick chances in the outing.

In goal, Chesterfield made seven saves in 84:37 of work before giving way to Christina Tamer, who played the final 5:23 and saved the only shot she faced in the closing seconds. Bratel suffered the loss for UWP with 11 saves overall in 90 minutes of action.

The win gave FSU's its 10th victory of the season, which represents the third consecutive year in which the Bulldogs have reached double-digit wins.

The Bulldogs will host Purdue Northwest on Sunday (Oct. 20) for Senior Day at 12 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids. FSU will honor its seven-member senior class in a special pregame ceremony starting approximately 25 minutes prior to the league tilt
