Bulldogs Battle National #1 Grand Valley To Road Tie

Allendale, Mich. - The nationally #11-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie on the road at nationally top-ranked Grand Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 3) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Bulldogs jumped in front at 27:42 when sophomore Jessie Bandyk ripped a high shot off the top of a Laker head and in for her first goal of the year. Junior Isabella Zamborini picked up her first assist of the year on the play.

With Ferris State up a goal, the Lakers were awarded a penalty shot that they put off the left goal post to keep the Bulldogs in front 1-0.

Midway through the second half, Ferris State senior Pia Nagel picked up a feed from senior Maddie Dickens (4) and scored low right for her team-leading seventh goal of the year at 62:06. The goal was Nagel's 34th career, which ties her for fourth most all-time with Tammy Unsworth (2005-08).

In the final seven minutes, the Lakers mounted a late charge. Greta Deloach scored at 83:00 followed by Madie Knaggs to tie the contest up at 2-2 on the scoreboard.

The Lakers won the shots battle 26-13 with an 11-4 edge in shots on goal and a 12-2 lead in corner tries.

The two teams played out overtime to a scoreless tie. Ferris State freshman goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei made eight stops and allowed two goals in 110 minutes in the draw while GVSU's Callie Rich made a pair of saves for the Lakers.

When the match began with Maddie Dickens on the field, Dickens officially set the all-time school record for games played (81), passing former teammate Tia VanSuilichem for the record.

The Bulldogs, still unbeaten in GLIAC play and unbeaten in their last eight contests, will return home to take on the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday (Oct. 8) at the Bulldog Soccer Field.
