Historic Season Comes To Heartbreaking End In Penalty Kicks

Ashland, Ohio - The Ferris State University women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals in the NCAA Tournament's First Round, but fell in penalty kicks as its season came to a halt in the program's second trip to the tournament in history on Thursday (Nov. 18) morning in Ashland, Ohio.

In a physical contest, the Bulldogs out shot the Cardinals 16-8, but could not best SVSU keeper Olivia Argeros in 110 minutes of action.

Both goalkeepers were strong, as Ferris State freshman goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei picked up a four-save shutout for her single season team-record 12th of the campaign, while Argeros dueled her at the other end with a four-save shutout of her own.

In penalty kicks, Mosallaei made a big first save, but the Bulldogs did not convert. The Cardinals scored on their next three tries to take the contest.

The Bulldogs' season came to a halt less than a week after winning their first-ever Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Title on Sunday. FSU will graduate a group of seniors who changed the face of the program and won more games than any senior class in history.

The senior class led the Bulldogs to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018, their first GLIAC Regular Season Championship in the sppring of 2021, and re-wrote the entire record book during their tenure.

Ferris State finishes the year 15-3-4 overall, which is tied for the second-most wins in school history in a single season.
