Bulldogs Run Unbeaten Streak To Nine, Storm Back For Draw At #6 GVSU

Allendale, Mich. - The Ferris State Univeristy women's soccer team started a second half flurry of chances that led to a come-from-behind 1-1 draw at nationally sixth-ranked Grand Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 16) at the GVSU Soccer Field in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.

Ferris State is now unbeaten in its last nine contests (7-0-2) and ran its unbeaten streak against Grand Valley to five consecutive matchups (1-0-4).

The Bulldogs made a key stop at their own goal line in the waning minutes to keep Grand Valley off the board as sophomore goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei made two stops before sophomore Lindsay Cole cleared the ball off the FSU goal line.

The Lakers, however, struck first at 51:41 when Nina Ferraro got loose on a shot aimed high right for a 1-0 GVSU lead.

Ferris State answered a little over 20 minutes later at 72:12 when senior Isabella Zamborini was awarded a free kick out left of the Laker goal. Zamborini laced a shot high left from the sharp angle for her GLIAC leading 10th goal of the campaign, knotting the contest at 1-1.

For the next several minutes, Ferris State threatened including back-to-back high danger chances from Zamborini, but narrowly missed taking the lead each time. On the day, Zamborini paced the contest with nine shots, six more than the next highest shooter on either squad in a strong effort.

In goal, Mosallaei earned the draw making five stops for the Bulldogs. Kendall Robertson made one save in goal for the Lakers on the day.

Grand Valley State had a narrow edge in shots (14-12) on the day and a 7-2 shots on goal lead. One shot on goal was credited as a team save (Lindsay Cole) on the late first half third-chance opportunity. GVSU also held a 7-4 corner kick advantage on the day.

Unblemished in their last nine outings, Ferris State returns to Big Rapids to wrap up home regular-season action, taking on Michigan Tech on Friday (Oct. 21) and Northern Michigan on Sunday (Oct. 23) at the Bulldog Soccer Field. Both games are set for 1 p.m. (ET).

The second-place Bulldogs will play third-place NMU, fourth-place Saginaw Valley State and fifth-place MTU in their final three regular season contests.
