Ferris Finishes Fifth At GLIAC Tournament

East Lansing, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team won its lone match on Sunday (Oct. 25) to finish fifth overall in the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament held at East Lansing, Mich.

The Bulldogs, who were seeded sixth overall in the draw, registered a 5-2 triumph over fifth-seeded Ashland to win the fifth-place match at the Michigan Athletic Club.  FSU previously suffered a 5-2 setback to third-seeded Michigan Tech in Saturday's (Oct. 24) quarterfinal round before bouncing back to post a 5-3 triumph over seventh-seeded Lake Superior State at the MAC facility.

In the match against Ashland, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-1 lead following doubles play with wins at the second and third flights.  FSU then took three of the first four completed singles spots against the Eagles to notch the win.

Bulldog winners in singles play included junior Amy Ingle at the number one flight, sophomore Melissa Flowers at the fourth position and senior Daniela Dimas at sixth singles.  All four of the completed singles matches were determined in straight-sets.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-5 overall this season by winning two of their three matches at the league tournament.  AU dropped to 8-7 overall with Sunday's setback.

The GLIAC Tournament was held in East Lansing for the first time with matches at both the Michigan Athletic Club and the Michigan State University Tennis Facility.

Ferris State is next scheduled to open spring competition with a non-league match at Calvin on March 2 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
