FSU Women's Tennis Drops Road Match

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team opened its annual spring trip with a 5-1 setback in non-league play at NCAA Division I Missouri-Kansas City on Tuesday (March 9) afternoon in North Kansas City, Mo.

The Bulldogs fell to 10-7 overall this campaign with the loss while the Kangaroos improved to 2-7 on the season in the win at the Northland Racquet Club.

In the win, UMKC freshman Laura Bouet tied a school single-season win record by recording her 10th victory of the campaign in a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at the second flight over FSU's Tiffany Rheynard.

In the other singles matches, Missouri Kansas City's Eva Dalvai battled back from a set down to defeat FSU's Amy Ingle, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8, at the top flight while Suzan Lisenby beat the Bulldogs' Melissa Flowers, 6-5, 6-4 in fourth singles competition.  Jillian Yakominich took her match from Ferris' number five player Natalie Diorio by a 7-6, 6-1 count.

In the sixth singles flight, UMKC's Holly Davis won the first set of her match against Daniela Dimas, 6-3, and was down in the second set, 2-3, before the match was called due to time.

Ferris' lone win of the day came at the number three flight where Bulldog freshman Tabitha Simpson topped Chelsea Horner 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles action, all three Kangaroo teams picked up wins to give UMKC the doubles point as the tandem round counted as only a single point in the final team score per NCAA Division I regulations.  Dalvai and Horner beat Ingle and Rheynard, 8-5, at the top flight while Lisenby and Bouet defeated Diorio and FSU's Mary Coleman at number two, 8-0.  In number three doubles play, Jessica Ball and Yakominich downed Ferris' Flowers and Dimas, 8-6.

The Bulldog women's tennis team continues its four-match swing to Missouri and Kansas by visiting Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday (March 10) for a 2 p.m. (EST) non-league tilt in Marysville, Mo.
