FSU Women's Tennis Competes In ITA Regional

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team competed in the 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships held Friday to Sunday (Sept. 17-19) at Jenison (Mich.) High School.

The event was hosted by Grand Valley State University and included the top singles and doubles competitors from schools throughout the region.

Senior Alina Stanila earned an opening-round bye after receiving the top overall draw in the singles competition.  She finished with a 2-1 record and reached the quarterfinal round before falling to Kristina Goranskaya of Wayne State by a 7-5, 6-3 score.

FSU senior Amy Ingle, who was seeded 11th overall in the draw, recorded a 2-1 singles mark while reaching the round of 16.

Bulldog junior Melissa Flowers posted a 1-1 overall record in the singles draw.  Senior Tiffany Rheynard lost her opening-round singles encounter.

In doubles play, the top tandem of Ingle and Rheynard won their opening match before bowing out of the competition in the second round with a 1-1 record.  They entered the event seeded fourth overall in the doubles draw.

Meanwhile, the pairing of Stanila and Flowers fell in their only doubles encounter on Friday.

The Bulldogs, who are presently both 4-0 overall and in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play, will resume conference action with a  key GLIAC encounter versus defending conference champion and rival Northwood on Sept. 21 at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.  Match time is set for 3 p.m. (EDT).
