Three FSU Players Claim All-GLIAC Kudos

Big Rapids, Mich. - Three members of the Ferris State University women's tennis team were recently honored as All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selections for the fall season, according to an announcement made by the league office.

Senior Alina Stanila (Alexandria, Romania) was tabbed as one of nine All-GLIAC First Team honorees while senior Amy Ingle (Battle Creek/Hastings) was chosen among nine second-team picks.  Additionally, senior Tiffany Rheynard (Kalamazoo/Gull Lake) claimed All-GLIAC Honorable Mention accolades in voting by the league's respective head coaches.

Wayne State's Sharon Gill was honored as the GLIAC Player of the Year with Saginaw Valley State head coach Mike Major earning GLIAC Coach of the Year kudos and Ohio Dominican's Sofia Espana-Perez receiving GLIAC Freshman of the Year laurels.

Stanila, who transferred to FSU prior to the fall season, recorded a perfect 11-0 singles record this year at the number one flight with all 11 wins coming in conference play.  She also paired up with FSU junior Melissa Flowers (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) to record a 9-1 overall doubles record at the number two flight.  All 11 of her singles victories came in straight-sets.

Meanwhile, Ingle notched a 6-4 mark in singles action at the second flight to go with an 8-3 doubles ledger at the top spot while pairing with Rheynard.  Ingle attained All-GLIAC laurels for the third-straight year after being a second-team choice in 2008 and a first-team honoree in 2009.

Rheynard earned honorable mention recognition for the second year in a row after posting a 7-3 record at the third position in the singles lineup.  Her 8-3 doubles mark at the top spot with Ingle represented the third consecutive campaign she's won eight or more tandem matches overall.

The trio helped FSU to an 11-3 overall record during the fall season, which included a third-place GLIAC regular-season finish and a third-place effort at the 2010 GLIAC Tournament held last weekend (Oct. 22-24) in Midland, Mich.

Ferris State will resume its 2010-11 campaign in the spring under fourth-year head coach Alex Palladino.
