Bulldogs Drop League Encounter At Ashland

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ashland University proved to be too tough for the Ferris State University women's tennis team as the Eagles scored a 7-2 victory over FSU in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Thursday (Oct. 6) afternoon in Ashland, Ohio.

The host Eagles bolted out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles round and then took wins at the top five singles flights en route to the convincing triumph.

Ferris State dropped to 6-3 both overall and in the GLIAC while Ashland improved to 8-2 with the victory.

FSU's lone doubles victory came by an 8-3 score at the number three flight while senior Mary Coleman recorded the only singles win with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at sixth spot in the lineup.

Four of Ashland's five wins in singles play came in straight-sets and the Eagles won both of the top two doubles positions by identical 8-4 margins.

Ferris State continues its three-match trip to Ohio by visiting Ohio Dominican on Friday (Oct. 7) for a 3 p.m. (ET) league encounter in Columbus, Ohio. The Bulldogs will then square off against Lake Erie on Saturday (Oct. 8) in a 10 a.m. (ET) league tilt at Painesville, Ohio.
