Women's Tennis Heads To GLIAC Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team will open play in the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament on Friday (Oct. 21) evening in Midland, Mich.

The three-day event runs thru Sunday (Oct. 23) and will take place at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

FSU will be the fifth overall seed in the eight-team field and face fourth-seeded Ashland in the first round on Friday night at 6:45 p.m. (ET).

The second round of the tournament will be on Saturday (Oct. 22) at 3:45 p.m. (ET) with the final round of play set for Sunday (Oct. 23) starting at 9:30 a.m. (ET).

Northwood holds down the top seed heading into the tournament with Wayne State listed second and Grand Valley State third.

Ferris State wrapped up regular-season play with a 8-4 overall mark while placing fifth in conference action.  The Bulldogs dropped a 7-2 decision to Ashland earlier this month (Oct. 6) in regular-season play at Ashland, Ohio.

Last season, the Bulldogs finished third overall at the 2010 GLIAC Tournament (10/22-24) held in Midland.  Ferris beat Michigan Tech 5-2 in last year's opening round before falling 5-4 to Northwood in the semifinals.  FSU bounced back to top Wayne State 5-1 for third place.

Ashland presently holds a 10-3 overall and 9-3 league mark this season going into the GLIAC Tournament.
