Women's Tennis Opens Road Trip With Win At SVSU

Big Rapids - The Ferris State University women's tennis team opened a three-match weekend road swing with a 6-3 win over Saginaw Valley State on Thursday (Sept. 27) afternoon in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at University Center, Mich.

The Bulldogs earned wins at the second and third doubles flights to build a 2-1 lead heading into singles action in the league tilt.  The doubles victories came from the team of Laurence LeBlanc and Julia Fusik at number two along with Sydnie Sine and Janie Sell at the third position.

FSU then was able to win four of the six singles matches to improve to 6-2 overall and in league play.  The four wins included a pair of three-set triumphs with Ana Jan beating Yunjiao Shangguan 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 at the number one spot and Sine topping Charlotte Wong 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at four singles.

The other two Bulldog wins came from Tabitha Simpson at the second position in the lineup along with Fusik at the sixth spot.

Saginaw Valley State fell to 5-3 overall and in the GLIAC with the setback.

Ferris State is back in action on Friday (Sept. 28) as FSU visits Lake Superior State for a 1 p.m. (ET) conference match in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.  The Bulldogs then head to Houghton to square off with Michigan Tech on Saturday (Sept. 29) at 10 a.m. (ET).
