Bulldog Women's Tennis Wraps Up GLIAC Regular-Season With Close Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad wrapped up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season action with an exciting 5-4 league home win over Tiffin on Sunday (Oct. 14) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs completed the conference season with a 10-5 overall record and a 9-5 league slate.

FSU built a 2-1 lead after doubles play with victories at the top two flights in the lineup.  The Dragons' lone win in doubles action came at the number three position.

In singles competition, Tiffin took the top two flights, but the Bulldogs came up with key wins at three, four and five singles.  Both the four and five singles wins came in three sets.

Ferris State's Julie Fusik pulled out the victory in the deciding fifth spot.  She led her match 5-2 in the third set before Tiffin's Abi Schuster tied it up at 6-6 and took a 5-2 lead in the tiebreaker.  However, Fusik stormed back to win it 7-5 and clinch the tight win for the Bulldogs.

FSU also received singles victories from both Janie Sell and Laurence LeBlanc.

The Bulldogs will compete in the 2012 GLIAC Tournament set for Oct. 26-28 at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
