Two Bulldogs Claim Fall Women's Tennis All-GLIAC Accolades

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis program recently had two players earn All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors for the fall season.  The awards were announced by the league office.

Junior Ana Jan (Nazor, Croatia) was among the honorees tabbed to the All-GLIAC second Team while senior Tabitha Simpson (Copley, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary's) was chosen as an honorable mention All-GLIAC recipient.

Together, the two helped the Bulldogs record an 11-7 overall record this fall, which included an 8-4 league mark under first-year head coach Chad Berryhill.

Jan posted a 9-7 overall singles record this fall with a 7-5 ledger in GLIAC competition at the number one singles flight for the Bulldogs.  Over her two-year career to date, she owns a 19-16 singles mark at Ferris State.

Simpson finished the fall with a 7-9 singles record at the second flight in the FSU lineup, but was 6-6 against GLIAC competition in league regular-season play as she improved her career mark to 44-33 overall.

In addition, Jan and Simpson also teamed up and finished 7-11 in doubles action at the top position in the Bulldog lineup with a 5-7 performance in league play.

Ferris State took fourth place in the 2012 GLIAC Tournament after pulling off a 5-4 upset over Ashland University in the opening round of the event.

Northwood University's Susana Alcaraz was named the 2012 GLIAC Women's Tennis "Player of the Year" by the league's head coaches in all-conference balloting.  The coaches named Michigan Tech's Kwang Suthijindawong the league's "Freshman of the Year," while Nicole Walbright, head coach of the Hillsdale College team, earned GLIAC "Coach of the Year" honors.
