Bulldog Women's Tennis Adds Standout Illinois Prep Recruit

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis program has announced the addition of a highly-touted prep recruit in an announcement made today by first-year head coach Chad Berryhill.

The Bulldogs have added Gabrielle Demchenko (Buffalo Grove, Illinois), who will be a freshman in collegiate eligibility for FSU in the fall 2013 season.

Demchenko has been ranked as high as 371st in the nation by tennisrecruiting.net and is a three-star recruit with significant prep experience.

"Gabrielle is a tremendous addition to our lineup and will fit in well with the players we have returning this coming year," said Berryhill. "She has great experience and will help fill out our team as we continue to climb both within the conference and the region."

A four-year varsity letterwinner, Demchenko competed at the number one singles and doubles positions for Buffalo Grove on the prep circuit. She placed among the conference's top participants all four years and is a three-time sectional champion.

During her high school career, Demchenko helped lead her squad to both conference and sectional titles along with placing among the top three teams at the state championships

Ferris State recorded a 12-9 overall mark during Berryhill's first season at the helm in the 2012-13 season and the Bulldogs registered a 9-5 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. The Bulldogs had only a lone senior on the team this past year and will return the bulk of their lineup this coming fall.
