Women's Tennis Pulls Out Narrow 5-4 Win Over Hillsdale In GLIAC Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team pulled out a hard-fought 5-4 win over visiting Hillsdale in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Saturday (Sept. 14) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs took two of the three doubles flights and then managed to split the six singles spots in pulling out the victory against the Chargers.

The win included a key three-set triumph from senior Ana Jan at the number one flight in the singles lineup.

"Ana Jan played like the senior she is," said FSU head coach Chad Berryhill. "When we needed the final match, she stepped up and won a dog fight against a tough competitor.  Hillsdale is always a tough challenge because they fight hard and we are fortunate to come out on top today."

Freshman Gabrielle Demchenko was the lone double winner for the Bulldogs as she was a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 winner at third singles and teamed up with fellow freshman Sydney Berens for a 8-4 victory at third doubles.

The Bulldogs, who improved to 3-2 overall this season and in league action, will wrap up their three-match weekend homestand against Findlay on Sunday (Sept. 15) at 10 a.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
