Women's Tennis Wraps Up Action With Singles Play At Wisconsin-Whitewater Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team wrapped up action on Saturday (Oct. 5) in the 2013 Warhawk/Panther Tennis Tournament in Whitewater, Wis.

Seven teams competed in the non-scoring invitational, including four NCAA Division I institutions in Wisconsin-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Northern Illinois. Ferris State and Grand Valley State were also in the field along with host Wisconsin-Whitewater.

On Saturday, the singles play wrapped up after the teams had contested doubles action on Friday.

At the top singles draw, FSU's Ana Jan came back to win a consolation match after dropping her first round action and eventually reached the consolation singles final before falling in straight-sets.

Meanwhile, Laurence LeBlanc dropped a pair of matches at the number two singles draw, including a three-setter in round one.

FSU freshman Gabrielle Demchenko also suffered a pair of setbacks before coming back to place seventh with a victory in her final match at the third singles flight.

The Bulldogs' Janie Sell claimed a win in the fourth singles draw in round one before eventually falling in the third-place match.

Ferris State's Jessica Wilcox dropped her first match at five singles, however, she bounced back with two victories to claim the consolation final.

Next up, at sixth singles, freshman Sydney Berens was a first-round winner and eventually won the third-place match in her bracket with a three-set triumph.

Finally, Rebecca Beloungea competed in the seventh singles draw and won back-to-back matches before falling in the title match in her division in straight-sets to finish as the runner-up.

Ferris State will resume GLIAC action on the road next Friday (Oct. 11) against Ohio Dominican starting at 3 p.m. (ET) in Columbus, Ohio.
