Ferris State Women's Tennis Rallies To Stay Unbeaten With GLIAC Triumph

Big Rapids, Mich. - Despite falling behind early after the doubles round, the Ferris State University women's tennis team rallied for a 5-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road victory Sunday (Sept. 14) at Saginaw Valley State to remain unbeaten on the year.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play by virtue of victories at the second and third flights in the lineup, but FSU stormed back to win the top four singles flights en route to the narrow win.

With the victory, Ferris State improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the GLIAC this campaign while SVSU fell to 0-4 on the year.

Both Shawnee Ann Brelsford and Noelly Longi Nsimba were double winners on the day for the Bulldogs as they paired up for an 8-2 triumph at the number one doubles flight before sweeping the Cardinals at the top two singles positions, respectively.

FSU also received wins in singles action from Matilda Ackered at the third flight and Olga Martinsone at the number four spot as each pulled out three-set wins.

Ferris State is next back in action on Wednesday (Sept. 17) with a key league road encounter against Northwood in Midland, Mich. FSU is presently one of four remaining unbeaten teams in GLIAC play along with NU, Grand Valley State and Wayne State.
