Memorable Ferris State Women's Tennis Campaign Comes To An End In NCAA Tournament

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team saw one of its most memorable seasons in recent history come to an end on Saturday (May 2) as the Bulldogs suffered a 5-0 setback to host Indianapolis in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament at Center Grove High School in Indianapolis.

The second-seeded Greyhounds advanced to the regional final by holding off the seventh-seeded Bulldogs in the four-team bracket. UIndy swept the doubles round in close fashion and then recorded back-to-back 6-0, 6-0 wins at the third and fourth singles positions to seal the victory.

In doubles play, the Greyhounds notched a 9-7 win at the top flight and posted an 8-6 victory at the second spot as FSU had an opportunity to win both contests.

Ferris State was making its 20th all-time national tournament appearance and the first since 2011 under third-year head coach Chad Berryhill.

With the setback, the Bulldogs wrapped up the season with a 19-9 overall record this campaign. FSU won four of its last five outings this spring and claimed wins in six of its last eight matches overall. The Bulldogs posted a 8-4 mark in spring competition after going 11-5 overall during the fall season.

Along with the FSU women's squad, the Bulldog men's tennis team also reached the NCAA Tournament this season and advanced to the Midwest Regional final in Springfield (Mo.) with a 5-2 first-round win on Saturday over Southern Indiana.

This year's Bulldog women's appearance in the NCAA Tournament was its first in four seasons.
