FSU Women's Tennis Stays Unbeaten With Hard-Fought Home Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team pulled out a hard-fought victory on Sunday (Sept. 13) as the Bulldogs beat Saginaw Valley State 5-4 in a close Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tilt at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs bolted out to a 2-1 lead following the doubles round, but SVSU swept the top three singles flights. However, Ferris State claimed the win by taking the bottom three spots in the lineup, which included a key three-setter from Arien Kissinger at the fifth flight to secure the win.

With the triumph, the Bulldogs improved to 3-0 overall and in GLIAC action while Saginaw Valley State fell to 1-3 overall and in conference play.

Ferris State received doubles wins from the number one tandem of Shawnee Ann-Breslford and Olga Martinsone along with the third flight pairing of Lauren Lomax and Nicole Meylor, both identical 9-8 scores.

In singles play, FSU got wins from both Martinsone and the fourth flight and Meylor in the sixth position to go with Kissinger's clinching win at the fifth spot.

Ferris State next hosts rival Northwood in GLIAC play on Wednesday (Sept. 16) starting at 2 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.

Sunday's match against SVSU opened up a four-match homestand for the Bulldogs.
