Ferris State Women's Tennis Hands GVSU First Loss To Cap Fall Regular-Season Play

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team capped off its fall 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season play in style by handing league archrival Grand Valley State its first loss of the year in a 6-3 victory on Thursday (Oct. 15).

The Bulldogs pulled out their most impressive victory of the campaign to date by beating GVSU indoors at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Center in Grandville. The win lifted FSU to 8-3 overall and in the GLIAc this fall.

Ferris State swept the doubles round en route to the early advantage over the Lakers and then managed to split the six singles flights to pull out the triumph. 

In doubles action, FSU took wins by scores of 8-3, 8-5 and 9-8 (7-5) from top to bottom, respectively.

The Bulldogs then captured middle flights in singles play, winning at the third thru fifth spots in the lineup. 

Ferris State's three singles victories included a pair of three-set triumphs from Lauren Lomax and Nicole Meylor at the third and fifth positions. 

With the loss, the league-leading Lakers dropped to 11-1 overall and 10-1 in the GLIAC this season.

The Bulldogs have secured a spot in the GLIAC Tournament and currently sit fourth overall in the league standings with action in the conference wrapping up this weekend. The league tourney will be held Oct. 23-25 in Midland.
