Bulldog Women's Tennis Closes GLIAC Tournament With Sunday Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team wrapped up weekend action at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament on Sunday (Oct. 25) morning with an exciting 5-4 triumph over Saginaw Valley State at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.

The Bulldogs claimed fifth place overall in the league tournament by coming back to win their final two matches after an opening-round setback against Tiffin.

In Sunday's consolation final versus the Cardinals, Ferris State jumped out to a big early lead by winning all three doubles flights in decisive fashion by scores of 8-2, 8-3 and 8-4, respectively.

However, in singles play, the Cardinals rallied to capture four of the six individual positions. But, Ferris State managed to win the two flights the Bulldogs needed to record the triumph.

The Bulldogs' Nicole Meylor was a straight-set winner at the fifth spot in the lineup and then Matilda Ackered recorded a tight three-set victory for the clinching win at the number three flight.

Ferris State finished the fall season with a 10-4 overall mark following the two back-to-back wins on Saturday and Sunday to wrap up the conference tournament. FSU won five of its last six outings of the fall campaign.

The Bulldogs will resume their 2015-16 season in the spring, which begins on Feb. 19 when the Bulldogs host Salem International in non-league play at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
