Ferris State Women's Tennis Records Impressive Regional Victory Over USI

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team picked up a key regional victory as the Bulldogs topped visiting Southern Indiana 8-1 on Saturday (Feb. 27) in non-league play at the Racquet and Fitness Center on the FSU campus.

The Bulldogs completed a men's and women's doubleheader sweep over the Screaming Eagles late Saturday afternoon with the dominating win. The 8-1 decision matched the same score posted on the men's side by FSU.

Ferris State's women's team improved to 12-5 overall this season by beating Southern Indiana, which dropped to 2-3 overall this campaign. The Bulldogs also have now won two of their three spring outings to date this year.

In the win over Southern Indiana, Ferris State built a 2-1 lead following the doubles round with identical 8-1 decisions at the second and third flights in FSU's favor. The lone setback of the day came at one doubles where FSU narrowly fell by a 9-8 score.

The Bulldogs then swept the singles round by winning all six positions. The wins included a pair of three-set triumphs at first and second singles followed by straight-set decisions at the third thru six flights.

The Ferris State women will wrap up a two-match weekend homestand by hosting Aquinas in non-league action on Sunday (Feb. 28) at the Racquet and Fitness Center beginning at 2 p.m. (ET).

Following the tilt against the Saints on Sunday, the Bulldogs will then travel to Florida for four matches on their annual Spring Break trip starting with an encounter against Tarleton State (Texas) on March 6 at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in the Sunshine State.
