Ferris State Women's Tennis Edged In Close 5-4 Home Decision

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team battled visiting Michigan Tech to the wire on Saturday (Oct. 7) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at FSU's Racquet and Fitness Center before coming out on the short end of a close 5-4 decision.

The visiting Huskies trailed FSU 2-1 following the doubles round, but rebounded to claim four of the six singles flights en route to the narrow win.

Ferris State built the early lead thanks to doubles victories from the number one tandem of Nika Hein and Silvia Verebes along with the second pairing of Nicole Meylor and Lauren Lomax.

In singles action, both Meylor and Lomax notched their second wins of the day as each recorded straight-sets triumphs at the third and fourth spots in the lineup.

However, Michigan Tech used straight-set wins at each of the first two flights along with the five and six positions en route to the come from behind victory.

With the win, the Huskies improved to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the GLIAC. FSU dropped to both 2-2 overall and in conference play with the setback.

The Bulldogs conclude a three-match league homestand by hosting Lake Superior State on Sunday (Oct. 8) starting at 10 a.m. (ET) at the Racquet and Fitness Center.
