Women's Tennis Registers Impressive Home Win Over LSSU To Cap Homestand

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad capped off a three-match homestand by beating Lake Superior State in impressive fashion 7-2 on Sunday (Oct. 8) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs swept the doubles round and claimed four of the six singles matches en route to the triumph.

With the win, FSU improved to 3-2 overall and in the GLIAC this year while LSSU fell to 1-8 overall and 0-7 in conference action.

Ferris State took the early advantage thanks to the doubles sweep. Nika Hein and Silvia Verebes teamed up for a 9-8 (3) win at the number one flight with Nicole Meylor and Lauren Lomax posting an 8-5 victory at two doubles. Finally, the number three pairing of Teodora Stefanovic and Arien Kissinger was a decisive 8-2 winner.

In singles competition, Ferris State used a strong showing from the middle portion of the lineup to pull out the league victory. LSSU's lone wins came at one singles by retirement and the sixth position while FSU swept the two thru five spots in the lineup.

Both Meylor and Lomax finished FSU's weekend matches unbeaten as they pulled out straight-set wins at three and four singles, respectively. Meanwhile, Verebes notched a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the second flight with Kissinger recording a 6-1, 6-3 decision at the fifth spot.

Ferris State next hits the road for three consecutive league encounters next weekend. The Bulldogs visit Wayne State on Friday (Oct. 13) before facing Tiffin on Saturday (Oct. 14) and Ashland on Sunday (Oct. 15). The first two outings both get underway at 10 a.m. (ET) with the finale against the Eagles set for a 1 p.m. (ET) start.
