Women's Tennis Opens Florida Trip With Decisive Win At Eckerd

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad opened up its annual spring break trip to Florida with a decisive 6-1 victory over Eckerd (Fla.) on Monday (March 11) at Bullard Courts in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The Bulldogs grabbed the doubles point by taking the second and third flights and then finished off the match with five wins in singles action in the opening contest of a four-match trip this week.

In doubles play, the tandem of Isabela Paixao and Agata Klak were 6-4 winners at the second spot in the lineup while Patricia Martin Gomez and Brittany Lavenant pulled out a 6-1 triumph at the third flight.

Meanwhile, in singles action, the Bulldogs got wins in straight-sets at the bottom five flights to earn the win. Paixao emerged victorious at two singles with senior Nicole Meylor claiming a win at the third flight. Lavenant was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at the fourth flight while Klak posted a 6-3, 6-3 decision at the fifth flight. Finally, Silvia Verebes claimed the win at six singles.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 10-7 overall this year and FSU has now won four-straight outings to date this year.

Ferris State is back in action on Tuesday (March 12) with an 11 a.m. (ET) non-conference tilt at nationally third-ranked Saint Leo (Fla.).
