Women's Tennis Wins Season Opener Over SVSU

Big Rapids, Mi. – The Ferris State University women's tennis team moved to 1-0 on the year with a 5-2 victory over Saginaw Valley State at the Ferris State Racquet Center in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Bulldogs picked up the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches. FSU sophomores Agata Klak and Isabela Paixao defeated SVSU's Taylor McLaughlin and Maddie Miller 6-3 at the number one doubles spot.

Ferris State sophomore Sam Stephenson and Morgan Waller won 6-3 at number two doubles over SVSU's Gyselle Gutierrez and Joanne Gao. At three doubles, senior Silvia Verebes and sophomore Brittany Lavenant swept away Nicole Johnson and Adiya Young 6-0.

At one singles, Paixao battled past SVSU's Miller 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 for the win, while Lavenant defeated SVSU's Gutierrez 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 at four singles. Klak was a winner at the fourth flight.

At five singles, Waller clinched the match 6-3, 6-1 over Sara Neves.

Ferris State is back in action against Northwood on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Ferris State Racquet Center at 10 am.
