Bulldog Tennis Comes Up Short In Tightly-Contested Battle With Michigan Tech

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad suffered a 5-2 setback to Michigan Tech in a tightly-contested Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) battle on Sunday (Oct. 13) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.

The visiting Huskies fell behind following the doubles round as FSU captured two of the three flights, but rallied back in singles action to take five of the six spots and garner the win.

With the decision, both teams are now 5-2 overall and also 5-2 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State earned doubles wins from the tandem of Isabela Paixao and Agata Klak at the one spot by a 6-4 count along with Morgan Waller and Sam Stephenson, who teamed up for a 6-0 decision at the third flight as FSU picked up the doubles point.

The Bulldogs' lone singles victory came from Waller as she won a three-set decision over MTU's Neva Manas as the fifth flight in the lineup.

"It was a well-fought match," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "We were awesome in doubles and in singles we really battled hard. We came up short, but we know we have the ability to pull it out if we get another chance at them in the conference championships."

The Bulldogs honored their senior class as part of the final fall home match at the Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs will hit the road next weekend as they visit Ashland on Saturday (Oct. 19) and Wayne State on Sunday (Oct. 20) for a pair of 10 a.m. (ET) league encounters. The two contests represent FSU's final regular-season action of the fall prior to the GLIAC Championships slated for Oct. 25-27 in Midland.
