Ferris State Tennis Squads Post Regional Home Split Against Tiffin

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads opened up a regional weekend homestead with a split against the Tiffin Dragons on Friday (March 15) inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldog men's team captured an exciting 4-3 victory over Tiffin while the women fell by a 5-2 score in the non-conference title.

In the men's match, Tiffin won all three doubles flights in scoring the first point of the match, but FSU rallied in singles action. The Bulldogs won four of the six positions with Kevin Kovacs recording the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-1 decision at six singles.

Meanwhile, in the women's contest, the Bulldogs fell behind early 1-0 as TU claimed the top two doubles spots for the opening point of the match. In singles play, Ferris State got wins from Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer at three singles along with Aimee Reynoso at the fifth position. However, Tiffin took the other four matches.

"I thought our women played a very focused and competitive match against a very good Tiffin team that is 12-1 overall," said FSU head coach Mark Doren.

Both Ferris State teams continue regional play at home on Saturday (March 16), hosting Walsh in Big Rapids. The women's match gets underway at 10 a.m. (ET) followed by the men's contest at 2 p.m. (ET).
