Ferris Track Teams Perform Well In Home Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams combined for 17 top-eight finishes in the annual running of the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday (April 10) at FSU's Top Taggart Field.

The non-scoring meet included a number of schools from across the state such as FSU, Grand Valley State, Northwood, Saginaw Valley State, Alma, Calvin, Hope, Lansing Community College, Northern Michigan, Lake Superior State along with unattached athletes.

The meet was held under sometimes windy and drizzly conditions.

FSU freshman Shelby Janutol emerged victorious in the 1,500 meters (4:48.57) in leading the Bulldog women's team, which netted 10 top-eight individual place winners.

Bulldog freshman Anna Rudd added runner-up laurels in the 5,000 meters (18:15.85).

The Bulldogs also received a third-place tying performance from senior Emily Cross in the high jump (5-1) along with a fifth-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles (15.90).

Freshman Zoey Hohmann placed third in the 400 meters (58.95) along with eighth in the 200 meters (27.15).

FSU sophomore Andrea Fogle came in third overall in the discus (127-0) with junior Amy Joostberns finishing seventh (120-8) in the same event.

Finally, freshman Christa Cwiek took seventh place in the javelin (102-3) and freshman Felicia Peacock wound up eighth in the 5,000 meters (19:11.05).

On the men's side, junior Justin Price won the 400 meters (48.96) and also received ninth place overall among a field of 48 competitors in the 200 meters (22.79).

Bulldog senior Greg Burns also won the pole vault (15-7) for the men's squad.

Senior Mike Mangieri received third-place honors in the 1,500 meters (4:03.23) while sophomore Tyler Crossman was third in the 5,000 meters (15:23.26).

Meanwhile, senior Justin Trombley placed sixth in the pole vault (13-1.50) with sophomore J.J. Vandenburg coming in seventh in the hammer throw (151-4).

The Bulldog quartet of Price, sophomore Jake Page, senior Dan Volk and freshman Derrick Bartlett also finished fourth in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:28.72).

Saturday's meet served as Ferris' annual home invitational.  The Bulldogs will also host the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Championships on May 5-7 at Top Taggart Field.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the Northwood Invitational on Saturday, April 17, starting at 9 a.m. (ET) in Midland, Mich.
