Bulldog Track & Field Opens Up Action At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads opened action in the 2013 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Championships on Thursday (May 2) in Ashland, Ohio.

The meet wraps up on Friday (May 3) with action running all day at the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex on the Ashland University campus.

FSU's Alyssa Osika posted the second-fastest qualifying time of 33 competitors in the women's 800 meters to reach Friday's event finals.  She was clocked in 2:15.09 in winning heat three of five in the event.

Christa Cwiek placed 13th overall in the javelin (96-09) for the Bulldog women's team.

Shea Van Klompenberg also competed in the 800 meters, but narrowly missed advancing to the finals as she placed 14th in a time of 2:21.35.

On the men's side, senior Ryan Chute recorded the seventh-best preliminary time in the 1,500 meters (3:57.95) and moved into Friday's finals in the event.  Teammate Blake Garver was one spot out of advancing as he came in 13th overall (4:02.05) and only the top 12 advanced.

The Bulldogs' Brandon Cushman picked up four points in the team standings for FSU as he took fifth place overall in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:14.61.

Connor LaRowe clocked 1:55.95 in the 800 meters and was 12th in the field, but did not advance to the finals of the event.

The final day of action begins on Friday morning at 10:45 a.m. and runs until late afternoon.
