Chute, Rudd Claim Capital One Academic All-District Track/CC Accolades

Big Rapids, Mich. - Two Ferris State University track and field/cross country student-athletes have achieved Capital One Academic All-District IV First Team status and are now eligible to receive Academic All-America recognition for the 2012-13 campaign.
Senior men's runner Ryan Chute (Waterford/Mott) along with junior women's standout Anna Rudd (Leslie) were both tabbed to the respective men's and women's all-district squads in Division II as recently announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The teams are nominated and chosen by members of CoSIDA.
To be eligible for Academic All-America or all-district consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
A total of 12 men's and 10 women's runners were honored on the all-district IV team in Division II, which encompasses schools from within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and independent schools.
On the men's side, Chute helped lead the Bulldogs to their first Division II National Championship appearance in Cross Country since 1985 last fall. He placed 19th overall in the Division II Midwest Regional Championships to earn All-Region accolades and help FSU to a D-II National Championship berth where FSU finished 13th overall in the country. For his efforts in the fall, he was recognized as a GLIAC Commissioner's Award honoree for excellence.
A GLIAC All-Academic Team honoree, he qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in the mile run and earned national provisional qualification status for the outdoor championships. Chute also claimed all-region recognition this season for FSU in the indoor mile run. He led the men's team as he placed third overall in the 3,000 meters at the GLIAC Indoor meet this year with a national provisional qualifying time of 8:24.72. His time was a personal-best and the third-best time ever in the event in Bulldog history.
Meanwhile, Rudd etched her name in the record books this year as she claimed the NCAA Division II National Championship in the women's 5,000 meters at the national indoor meet. She became only the second-ever women's track and field individual national champion by winnning the event and also earned runner-up honors in the 3,000 meters on the national level before redshirting during the outdoor campaign.
Earlier this season, she led the Bulldogs as she claimed two individual event titles at the GLIAC Indoor Championships held in Allendale (Feb. 23-24) en route to being tabbed as both the Women's Track Athlete of the Meet. Rudd ran a meet-record 16:42.95 over 5000 meters at the league indoor meet and also won a title at 3000 (9:37.06) meters.
In addition, she was named to the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Midwest Region Team in three events (mile, 3,000 and 5,000) and also honored as this year's recipient of the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year honor for her accomplishments.
The Capital One Division II Academic All-America Teams for both men's and women's track/cross country will be announced on June 26.
