FSU's Katie Etelamaki Chosen As 2020 CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American

Big Rapids, Mich. - Senior All-America standout Katie Etelamaki (Ishpeming/Westwood) has earned one of the most prestigious honors of her collegiate career as she has been chosen as a 2020 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America First Team honoree as announced by the national organization.

Previously, Etelamaki was chosen recently as a first-team academic all-district pick before being tabbed among the country's top performers on the Academic All-America First Team.

The 2020 Academic All-America Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The Bulldog senior was among 15 individuals from across all Division II schools in the country named to them women's D2 Academic All-America First Team squad. A total of 15 more were picked to the second and third teams each in voting by college sports information directors from across the country.

Etelamaki earned All-America honors for the second consecutive year at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships and was a three-time GLIAC Commissioner's Award recipient. Etelamaki competed individually at the national championships, posting a 23-second personal best and notching the second-fastest time in school history in Sacramento. Overall, she earned All-GLIAC First Team honors in cross country three-straight years and was a three-time All-Midwest Region choice.

This season, Etelamaki earned all-region cross country recognition with an 11th-place individual finish in a time of 21:18.8 in the D2 Midwest Regional Championships in Evansville, Ind. The two-time cross country All-American also claimed 2019 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field All-America recognition and concluded her career as a 10-time NCAA national qualifier in track and field.

Etelamaki garnered GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honors for the fourth consecutive year and ranks among the Bulldogs' top five all-time performers in seven different events. On the track, she was also a NCAA Division II Provisional National Qualifier this winter. In the classroom, she posted a perfect grade point average as a biology major. This year, she was also chosen as a co-recipient of the 2020 Dean Davenport "Bulldog Of The Year" Award presented to Ferris State's top female athlete.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada from which the Academic All-America Team is selected.

The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs.
