Bulldogs Win Five Events And Finish With 33 Top 10 Efforts At Al Owens Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State this weekend (April 16-17) in Allendale.

The competition included student-athletes from most Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schools along with institutions from across the region and the state.

The Bulldogs finished with five individual event champions and two runner-up efforts. Overall, the Bulldogs had 19 top-10 finishes in the women's action with 14 more on the men's side for a total of 33 performances among the top 10 in event competition.

The Bulldogs' Brianna Copley won the shot put invite title (14.56m) and was second in the discus throw invite field (46.95m). Brooklynn Federspiel claimed the hammer throw (42.36m) open division.

FSU's Hannah Loucks was the runner-up in the 5,000 meters (19:02.47) with Paige Deitering sixth (19:11.31) in the race and Amelia Topolinski eighth (19:58.07).

Carissa Schurr was fifth overall in the 800 meters (2:17.17). Claudia Wilkinson finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (16.40) with Allyson Faulkner 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.20).

Wilkinson placed tied for third in the high jump (1.59m) with Amanda Eslinger tied for seventh (1.54m). Kennedy Riebschleger finished third in the open shot put (11.17m) along with sixth in the javelin (33.08m) and ninth in the hammer throw invite (41.68m) division. Emma Stephayn came in sixth in the discus throw invite (39.42m) along with fourth in the hammer throw invite (47.95m). 

Isabel Dziadzio was seventh in the discus open field (29.20m) with Natalie Beckman ninth (28.93m).

FSU was also seventh in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:15.58) with a quartet of Faulkner, Kylie Hutchinson, Sydney Kubiak and Schurr.

On the men's side, Jason Keena took first place in the javelin (156-7). Aaron Jarema won the 5,000 meters (15:34.82) with Casey Bouman 10th in the same race (16:29.81). Brett Robertson won the 400-meter hurdles (53.64) and placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (15.63).

Donis Harris placed seventh in the 1,500 meters (3:56.42) and Ben Menapace came in 10th in the 200 meters (22.61).

Ferris State's Trevor Roznowski took sixth place in the shot put (477.25) with Kyle Drouillard seventh (45-7.75) and Forrest Akers 10th (44-4.75) in the event. Roznowski was also sixth in the discus (46.91m) and eighth in the hammer throw (163-1). Travis Feldpaush placed seventh in the javelin (124-9).

FSU's 4x400-meter relay pairing of Menapace, Brendan Deneen, Ethan Hamilton and Robertson also finished seventh (3:26.76).

Ferris State is slated to compete this coming week with representatives at both the Hillsdale Gina Relays (April 22-24) and the Davenport Invitational (April 23-24).
