FSU Volleyball Powers Past Southern Indiana

The Ferris State University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to four straight as the Bulldogs held the advantage in every statistical category to notch a 3-0 non-league (25-22, 25-16, 25-22) victory over Southern Indiana this Friday (Oct. 16) afternoon in opening round action at the 2009 Asics GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament in Lansing, Mich.

Ferris State improves to 16-6 overall this season with the win and will now go up against the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons later this afternoon in their second and final tournament match of the day.  First serve is set for 4 p.m. (EDT) at the Aim High Facility.

Junior middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) along with senior middle hitters Sarah Lark (Alma) and Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) tallied a team-best 10 kills apiece for Ferris State, which registered a .255 attack percentage for the match.  Lark also recorded a team-leading .444 hitting percentage with her 10 kills coming on 18 attempts and sophomore outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) chipped in with eight kills while hitting at a .400 clip.  Redshirt freshman setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) accounted for a match-high 39 assists of the FSU's 42-team total.

 The Bulldogs dominated at the net with an 8.0-to-1.0 total team blocks advantage.  Sarah Lark's five blocks (all assists) led the way while Arielle Goodson posted three blocks (two assists) as did senior outside hitter Katie Edwards (Cedar Springs), who garnered three block assists.  Ashley Huntey chalked up a squad-high eight digs and sophomore libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) had six as Ferris State would hold a 35-33 edge in the defensive statistic.

Ferris State has now won seven of its last nine encounters to date.
