FSU Volleyball Earns Votes In AVCA National Poll

The 2009 Ferris State University women's volleyball team has received attention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as the Bulldogs are listed among others receiving votes in this week's (Sept. 14) Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll.

The Bulldogs received 17 points and are one of 10 teams to receive votes in the poll besides the Top 25-ranked teams.  Five of the 10 schools earned votes are Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)-member institutions - Ferris State, Wayne State (46 pts.), Grand Valley State (30 pts.), Hillsdale (25 pts.), and Saginaw Valley State (seven pts.).

Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) remained in the top spot in this week's AVCA national poll with 800 points and all 32 first-place votes.

Ferris State, under 14th-year head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, is presently 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC this season.  The Bulldogs have won seven of their last eight matches to date and are currently midst a four-match winning streak.

FSU hosts archrival Grand Valley State this Tuesday (Sept. 15) in a 7 p.m. (EDT) conference match at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.  Following that encounter, the Bulldogs travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula for a pair of GLIAC contests against Michigan Tech this Friday (Sept. 18) at Houghton, Mich., and versus Northern Michigan this Saturday (Sept. 19) in Marquette, Mich.
