FSU Wins GLIAC Opener At Michigan Tech

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team kept its season-opening unbeaten streak intact and won its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener with an impressive 3-0 win over Michigan Tech on Friday (Sept. 9) evening in Houghton, Mich.

The Bulldogs claimed the victory by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-16 at MTU's Student Development Complex Gymnasium.

Fourteen different Bulldog players saw action in the triumph as a balanced lineup fueled the win.  Junior outside hitter Aly Brecht tallied a match-high 13 kills for FSU while three others also totaled 10 kills or more in the victory.  Senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey and junior middle hitter Anne Sutton both netted 12 kills while freshman middle hitter Courtney Rehm had 10 kills.

Ferris State also received 45 assists and a team-high seven digs from senior setter Samantha Fordyce en route to the win.

Overall, the Bulldogs compiled 50 kills, 36 digs and a single block compared to MTU's 24 kills, 29 digs and no blocks.

The Bulldogs also benefited from seven service aces.

No Michigan Tech player had more than six kills in the contest.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 5-0 overall this campaign while MTU fell to 2-4 overall with the league-opening setback.

The Bulldogs will wrap up the two-match trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Sunday (Sept. 11) at Northern Michigan with a 2 p.m. (ET) start time slated in Marquette, Mich.
