FSU Volleyball Downs SVSU In A 3-0 Decision

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team concluded its seven match homestand this Saturday (Oct. 1) with a 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-19) victory over another Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe in the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals.  

With the win the Bulldogs extend ther winning streak to seven-straight and still own a perfect (11-0) home mark inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

Ferris State's record improves to 12-1 overall and 8-1 in the GLIAC.  Meanwhile, Saginaw Valley State drops to 7-6 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

The Bulldogs were sporting pink uniforms to kick off the "Paint Big Rapids Pink" community effort to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Ferris State had two student-athletes that notched double-digit kill counts. Junior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview) tallied 16 kills, including six apiece in the second and third set. Sutton accumulated an impressive .625 kill percentage off 24 attack attempts. Junior outside hitter Aly Brecht  (Alma) totaled 11 in the three-set match. The Bulldogs totaled for 47 kills as a team in the match in comparison to the the Cardinals' 40 kills.

Senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) had a match-high 14 digs. During the second set, Huntey recorded her 1000th career dig as a Bulldog. She ended the match with 1,006 digs thus far in her collegiate career. Senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) had the match second-best dig count with 12.

The Bulldogs totaled seven blocks, including two block solos from Anne Sutton and three block assists from junior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt). Fordyce was strong offensively as well, racking up 44 assists, contributing to the Ferris State match total of 47 helpers.

Ferris State will make the trip to Allendale this Sunday (Oct. 2) as they look to defeat the Grand Valley State Lakers for the second time this season. The match has a start time of 2 p.m. (EDT)
