Bulldogs Extend Win Streak To Seven-Straight

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team extended its win streak to seven as they battled to a 3-2 (21-25, 25-17, 27-25, 20-25, 15-5) victory over the Northwood Timberwolves in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Friday night (Nov. 4) at the Bennett Sports Center in Midland, Mich.

With the win, the 2011 GLIAC North Division Champions improved their record to 23-2 overall and 17-1 in GLIAC play. The Timberwolves dropped to a 12-13 overall and 10-7 conference record.

Two Bulldogs reached double-digit kill numbers, including senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood), who led the match with 22 kills.  She also notched her 1,000th career kill in the triumph and currently has 1,011 kills in her FSU career to date.

Junior outside hitter Aly Brecht (Alma) added 20 kills in the five-set match.

Ferris State totaled 18 blocks with freshman middle hitter Courtney Rehm (Portage) accounting for 11 on nine block assists and two solo blocks. Northwood blocked four of the Bulldogs' attempted attacks.

Senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) had a match-high 23 digs. Junior setter Samantha Fordyce (DeWitt) tallied all but two of the Bulldog assists with 48 on the night.

The Bulldogs also had a .239 kill percentage for the contest compared to the .165 Northwood showing.

Ferris State is currently ranked 12th nationally under head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm and will conclude 2011 regular season action on Saturday (Nov. 5) against Lake Superior State. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. (EDT) in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

The Bulldogs have secured a home match for the quarterfinal-found of the GLIAC Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 10. Tournament pairings will be announced this weekend after regular-season play has concluded.
