FSU's Anne Sutton An Academic All-American!

Big Rapids, Mich. - Junior middle hitter Anne Sutton (Grand Rapids/Northview) of the Ferris State University women's volleyball squad was recently named to the 2011 Capital One Division II Academic All-America Third Team.

The academic all-america teams are chosen by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members and recognize the nation's top student athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom.

Sutton had her best season as a Bulldog this past fall as she ranked second on the squad with 335 kills and attack percentage at .357 in 31 matches.  She was also second overall with 75 blocks on the year.  For her efforts, she was both a 2011 Daktronics All-Midwest Region Second Team selection and an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-Region honoree.

A three-time GLIAC All-Academic Team honoree, Sutton has twice earned D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award laurels.  She also earned All-GLIAC First Team honors this past season for her performance and was previously named to the Capital ONe Academic All-District First Team.

Sutton helped lead FSU to a 27-4 overall record as the Bulldogs won the GLIAC North Division crown this season and emerged as league co-champions.

Ferris State wrapped up the 2011 campaign by reaching the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Semifinals.  The Bulldogs also achieved their highest national ranking in more than 20 years this season.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
