FSU Dominates Lake Erie In Decisive Home Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The 21st-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team rolled to its eighth consecutive victory with a decisive 3-0 triumph over visiting Lake Erie on Saturday (Oct. 6) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs were 25-8, 25-11 and 25-17 winners over the Storm in the league match as FSU improved to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the GLIAC.

Lake Erie dropped to 3-12 overall and 0-9 in conference play with the setback.

Senior middle hitter Anne Sutton paced Ferris State with 10 kills while senior middle hitter Angi Kent added seven kills in the victory.

The Bulldogs posted a .349 attack percentage with 40 kills and only 11 errors on 83 total attempts. FSU added 45 digs, four blocks and seven service aces with only two service errors.

Senior setter Samantha Fordyce posted 35 assists and junior libero Brandie Merren had 10 digs in the Bulldog victory.

The Bulldogs played a total of 14 players in the match.

Lake Erie was led by Molly Richardson and Sara Aultz with five kills each.  Rachel Ritt had 10 digs.

FSU limited the Storm to a .011 attack figure with only 19 kills and 18 errors on 88 attacks.  The Storm had 28 digs, two aces and no blocks to go with five service errors.

Ferris State honored its 1987 NCAA Volleyball Final Four team between the second and third sets of the match as the historic squad celebrated its 25th anniversary, which ironically came during the Bulldogs' current 40th anniversary campaign.

Ferris State next will take part in the GLIAC/Great Lakes Valley Conference Crossover Tournament on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 12-13) in Aurora, Ill.  Official pairings will be announced early this week.
