Bulldog Volleyball Wraps Up Crossover Tourney With Victory

Big Rapids, Mich.- The Ferris State University women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2012 Mizuno GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament with a 3-1 win over Southern Indiana on Saturday (Oct. 13) at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill.

The nationally 21st-ranked Bulldogs dropped the opening set 25-23, but responded by winning three sets in a row by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20 to improve to 15-5 overall this campaign.  USI fell to 10-11 on the year with the setback.

The Bulldogs received a balanced effort as senior middle hitter Anne Sutton notched nine kills as did sophomore outside hitter Courtney Rehm and senior outside hitter Aly Brecht.  Both Rehm and Brecht added 11 digs apiece while FSU also received 23 digs from junior libero Brandie Merren.

Senior setter Samantha Fordyce totaled 33 assists and 13 digs for FSU in the victory with senior middle hitter Angi Kent contributing eight kills.

FSU hit .195 for the day on 44 kills with 15 errors and 149 total attacks.  The Bulldogs concluded the match with 69 digs and 10 team blocks in addition to eight service aces.  Ferris State had seven service errors in the victory.

Rehm tallied a match-high five aces for the Bulldogs while Sutton had six block assists in the win.

Southern Indiana had two players reach double-figures in kills as Lauren DeShaney totaled 16 and Fawn Ryan had 11 in the loss.  Kayla Heldman paced USI with 21 digs and Jorae Bradbury recorded 26 assists to go with 11 digs.

Southern Indiana had 54 kills on 168 total attempts, but had 35 errors to finish with a .113 attack percentage.  The Screaming Eagles posted 76 digs, 7.5 blocks and four aces with six errors from the service line.

Ferris State returns to GLIAC action next weekend as the Bulldogs visit Findlay on Friday, Oct. 19, for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) league tilt at Findlay, Ohio.  FSU then takes on Wayne State on Satruday, Oct. 20, with match time set for 4 p.m. (ET) in Detroit.
