Bulldog Volleyball Records Five-Set Road Win At Wayne State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad pulled out an important Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road victory on Saturday (Oct. 20) as the Bulldogs topped Wayne State in a close 3-2 contest at the Matthaei Complex in Detroit.

Ferris State dropped the first set 25-20 before winning the second frame by a 25-18 count. WSU responded with a 25-17 win in the third set with FSU taking the fourth set 25-14.  Finally, in the fifth and deciding set, FSU came out with the win as the Bulldogs posted a 15-10 victory.

FSU improved its record to 17-5 overall and 10-1 in league action while Wayne State fell to 13-9 overall and 7-4 in the GLIAC.

Sophomore outside hitter Courtney Rehm paced FSU as she totaled 12 kills and had 21 digs in a double-double performance.  Meanwhile, senior middle hitter Anne Sutton recorded 10 kills for Ferris State, which was limited to a .174 attack percentage on the day.  FSU had 48 kills and 19 errors on 167 attacks.

Junior libero Brandie Merren had a career-day with 35 digs for Ferris State.  The 35 digs rank as the third-most in a single-match in school history.

Senior outside hitter Aly Brecht tallied 13 digs to go with seven kills, senior setter Samantha Fordyce recorded 39 assists and 10 digs with senior middle hitter Angi Kent adding eight kills and five block assists.  Freshman outside hitter Megan Vander Meer also had a strong day at the net with seven block assists in addition to seven kills.

Ferris State posted 96 digs in the match with 14 team blocks compared to WSU's 85 digs and seven blocks.  FSU had eight service aces and four errors with Wayne State totaling six aces and 11 errors at the service line.

Wayne State hit .144 for the match with 59 kills and 30 errors on 201 attacks.  

The Warriors were led by Kristen Bulkiewicz's team-high 16 kills.  Madie Kent added 10 kills and Lindsey Graciak posted 26 digs in the setback.

Ferris State returns home for its next three league matches beginning next weekend.  FSU hosts Michigan Tech on Friday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. (ET) followed by a matchup versus Northern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 27, starting at 3 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

FSU's 10-1 league mark to date this campaign currently trails only Northwood's 11-0 mark in league competition with seven matches left in the regular-season.
