Volleyball Continues Impressive Play In Home Win Over NMU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team continued its successful run with a 3-1 win over Northern Michigan in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division play on Saturday (Oct. 27) afternoon at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs pulled out a 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 25-22 victory over the Wildcats as FSU increased its mark to 19-5 overall and 12-1 in the GLIAC.  The win was the second in as many days for the Bulldogs at home.

Freshman outside hitter Megan Vander Meer and senior outside hitter Aly Brecht both notched 11 kills apiece in leading the Bulldogs.  Meanwhile, senior setter Samantha Fordyce totaled 27 assists and 11 digs in the FSU victory.

Ferris State also recieved 12 digs each from sophomore outside hitter Courtney Rehm and junior libero Brandie Merren.

The Bulldogs hit .248 for the day and had 43 kills with 14 errors on 117 total attacks.  FSU netted 50 digs to go with seven aces and seven blocks at the net.

On the opposite side, Sarah Hamilton paced NMU with a match-high 12 kills and Lina Lopes added 10 for the Wildcats, who fell to 16-10 overall and 8-5 in league play on the year.

Northern Michigan posted a .118 attack percentage with 53 kills and 35 errors on 152 total attempts.  The Wildcats finished with 48 digs, 11 aces and three blocks, but also had 14 service errors compared to only five for the Bulldogs.

Kalin Zimmerman totaled 10 digs for the Wildcats in the loss while Kellisha Harley had 32 assists.

Ferris State, which was listed 26th in last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II National Poll, will host rival Grand Valley State inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.  

Tuesday's match will be the second between the two West Michigan rivals this season following a thrilling 3-2 Bulldog win in Allendale on Sept. 25.
