Bulldog Volleyball Back On Track After Road Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 25th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad got back on track in convincing fashion on Friday (Nov. 2) night with a 3-0 sweep over Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

The Bulldogs won the match by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-22 to improve to 20-6 overall and 13-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.  LSSU fell to 4-22 overall and 1-14 in league competition.

The match was the first for the Bulldogs following a 3-0 home setback to rival Grand Valley State on Tuesday (Oct. 30) evening.

Senior middle hitter Anne Sutton had 17 kills to lead all players in the match.  FSU also received nine kills from freshman outside hitter Megan Vander Meer in addition to seven kills each by senior outside hitter Aly Brecht and middle hitter Angi Kent.

Junior libero Brandie Merren notched 14 digs for FSU in the victory with Brecht contributing 11 on the night.  Senior setter Samantha Fordyce posted 45 assists and seven digs for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State hit an impressive .312 for the night, including a .439 figure in the second set.  FSU had 51 kills with only 11 errors on 128 total attacks.

The Bulldogs held a 57-52 margin in digs and totaled three service aces to two for the Lakers.  FSU had eight errors at the service line with LSSU totaling three service errors.  The Lakers also held a slim 4-3 margin in total blocks.

Emily Snyder led LSSU with 10 kills while Meghan Drobish added 19 digs.  Snyder had 12 digs with MaryLou Drobish posting 20 assists.

FSU limited the Lakers to a .206 attack percentage with 41 kills and 15 errors in 126 attempts.  The Lakers did manage to hit .359 in the second frame, but it wasn't enough to win the set.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday (Nov. 3) as FSU visits Saginaw Valley State for its final league regular-season road contest starting at 2 p.m. (ET).
