Longtime Ferris State University women's volleyball head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm has announced the recent addition of NCAA Division I transfer Alexis Huntey to the Bulldog program.

A local product who attended Morley-Stanwood High School, Huntey transferred to FSU at the semester break and began classes last week after playing her initial collegiate season as a freshman at George Washington University this past fall.

Huntey's the younger sister of former Bulldog All-American Ashley Hunteyand will be a sophomore in eligibility with three years remaining at Ferris State in the fall of 2013.

"We're excited to have Alexis as a part of the Bulldog family," Brandel-Wilhelm said.  "She's a talented student-athlete who's had a close relationship to our program and has the ability to make an impact on and off the court. It will be great to have her in a Bulldog uniform."

Huntey played in 18 matches and made 12 starts for GW in 2012 as the Colonials posted a 10-18 overall record along with a 7-7 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference.  She tallied 300 assists with 89 digs, 54 kills, 29 blocks and eight service aces in her initial season at the Washington, D.C.-based institution.

This past season, Huntey dished out a season-high 51 assists against Temple (Oct. 14) and had a personal season-high nine kills versus Rhode Island (Nov. 4) with competing at both the right-side and setter positions.

As a prep standout at Morley-Stanwood, Huntey finished as the runner-up in Michigan's Miss Volleyball voting after garnering first team all-state honors four consecutive years.  She led the Mohawks to 11 tournament championships, three-straight district and league titles along with a pair of regional crowns and a state championship in 2011.

During her high school career, Morley-Stanwood posted a 142-22-2 mark with Huntey in the lineup.  She claimed PrepVolleyball.com All-America Third Team recognition after totaling 930 kills, 748 digs and 106 aces as a prep senior.  She slammed 30 kills in the school's Michigan Class C State Championship match victory and ranks fourth among the state's all-time leaders with 2,860 kills.  Huntey is also fourth on the state's single-season list with her 930 kills in her senior campaign.

The daughter of Christine and Clark Huntey, Alexis set a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) with 930 kills in her senior season.  Seh was the school's recipient of the Senior Athlete Award and also earned all-state recognition as a basketball player.

In addition to her success with the Mohawks, Huntey also played competitive volleyball on the travel circuit with the Far Out Volleyball Club (2007-08), Inside Out (2008-09) and the Michigan Volleyball Academy (2010-12).  She was a member of the National Honor Society and served as the student council president while graduating with high honors.

Huntey's older sister, Ashley, wrapped up her standout Bulldog career in 2011 as a three-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and GLIAC All-Academic Team honoree who claimed American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II All-America Third Team recognition in her final season after leading the Bulldogs to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional semifinals and a GLIAC North Division Championship.

Along with Ashley, Alexis also has three other siblings in brothers Tyler, Nicholas and Chase.  Tyler currently plays collegiate baseball at Central Michigan University.
