Ferris State Volleyball Wraps Up Regular-Season With Key Road Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team won an important regional and conference contest by beating Northwood in a 3-0 sweep to conclude the regular-season on Saturday (Nov. 16) at the Bennett Sports Center in Midland.

The nationally 24th-ranked Bulldogs, who were second in this past week's NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings, cruised past the region's third-ranked Timberwolves with a 25-23, 26-24, 25-16 triumph in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.

With the win, Ferris State closed the regular-season with a 22-7 overall record along with a second-place 15-3 mark in GLIAC North Division action.  Northwood dropped to 20-9 overall and 13-5 in the GLIAC with the setback.

Junior outside hitter Courtney Rehm tallied a match-high 15 kills for the Bulldogs while adding nine digs and three total blocks in the Bulldog victory.

Along with Rehm, FSU received nine kills each from sophomore Alexis Huntey and Caroline Heitzman with senior middle hitter Angi Kent adding six kills on the afternoon.  

Ferris State hit .189 for the day with 45 kills and 20 errors on 132 total attacks. The figure included a .235 showing in the final third set.

On the opposite side, Northwood managed to hit only .127 for the match and netted 35 kills along with 18 errors on 134 total attempts.

Senior libero Brandie Merren had a team-high 22 digs for the Bulldogs as FSU finished with 69 in the contest. Sophomore Megan Vander Meer chipped in wiht 18 digs and Huntey added 13 to aid the Ferris State cause. 

FSU also finished with four service aces to go with three solo blocks and 10 assisted blocks at the net.  Kent tallied a solo efforts and three assisted blocks to lead FSU in the category.
Meanwhile, freshman setter Stephanie Sikorski tallied 39 assists in directing the Bulldog offense.

Northwood was paced by both Kristin Perschon and Juliia Pakhomenko, who both totaled 10 kills each. Pakhomenko also had 16 digs with Krysta Kramer adding 11 and Jordan Dunn totaling 10 in the contest.

Overall, the Timberwolves finished with 59 digs, three solo blocks, 14 assisted blocks and two aces in the match. They also had seven errors at the service line.

Ferris State closed the regular-season on a four-match winning streak, which included a
weekend road sweep over two regionally-ranked top 10 teams in Northwood and Hillsdale.

The top four teams at the end of Saturday's play will host GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal-round home contests on Wednesday (Nov. 20). Official pairings will be announced by the league office following tonight's action.
