Local Product Hannah Guy Joins NCAA Regional Champion Ferris State Volleyball

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball program, which reached the NCAA Division II Elight Eight by winning the Midwest Regional Championship last fall, has announced yet another addition to its 2014 recruiting class.

Local hitter/setter Hannah Guy (Mecosta/Chippewa Hills) inked with the Bulldogs and will be a freshman in eligibility when she joins the program during the fall 2014 campaign.

"We are very excited to add Hannah to our program," said head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhem. "She is a dedicated and hard working athlete. Hannah is extremely athletic and plays with great poise and competitive spirit.

"She is very connected to the players on the team and will make a seamless transition to Bulldog Volleyball," she added.

A four-year letterwinner, the 6-1 Guy led Chippewa Hills High School to a district championship last fall after guiding the program to a conference championship as a junior in 2012. She earned all-state accolades and was named to the Big Rapids Pioneer Dream Team for the third year in a row. Guy also claimed all-area accolades for the third time in her prep career under head coach Abby Snyder.

Along with volleyball, Guy also had a standout prep basketball career for the Warriors and claimed both Big Rapids Pioneer Dream Team and Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun All-Area laurels multiple times. On the hardwood, she also picked up all-state recognition and was tabbed as the squad's Most Outstanding Player in addition to being a Scholar-Athlete choice and academic all-state pick.

Besides competing at the prep level, Guy also played club volleyball for Inside Out under coach Matt Kozuch. The daughter of Craig and MaryAnn Guy, she has been active in her school's student council and is a National Honor Society member.

Ferris State closed a memorable 2013 campaign with a 25-9 overall record after nearly pulling off a major win over eventual national runner-up BYU-Hawaii in their first appearance deep on the national stage since the late 1980's. FSU, which made its 18th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance this past fall, claimed a regional crown to reach the Elite Eight and national quarterfinals for only the third time in school history and first since 1989.

This past year marked Ferris State's first regional championship since previously winning two back in 1987 and 1989. The Bulldogs reached at least the regional semifinals for the third year in a row and have now made the NCAA Tournament nine times under Brandel-Wilhelm, who led FSU to the Elite Eight for the first time in her tenure after notching her 500th career victory in an exciting 3-2 comeback win over archrival Grand Valley State in the Midwest Regional title match in Allendale.

The Bulldogs also placed tied for second this season in the GLIAC with a 15-3 overall record, reached the conference tournament for the 16th consecutive year and posted 20 wins or more for the 12th time in 18 seasons under Brandel-Wilhelm's direction.
