#15 Bulldogs Roll Past SVSU In League-Opening Victory On The Road

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 15th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team started Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action off on a winning note as the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 road shutout over Saginaw Valley State on Friday (Sept. 12) night in University Center, Mich.

Ferris State dominated the opening set with a 25-15 triumph and held off the Cardinals for a 29-27 decision in the middle frame. FSU then sealed the win by beating SVSU 25-17 in the third set.
FSU compiled a .197 attack figure, but hit .306 in the opening frame. FSU also limited SVSU to a .060 percentage for the match.

A balanced Bulldog attack was paced by senior outside hitter Courtney Rehm, who netted a match-best 13 kills. Junior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer tallied nine kills with junior hitter Alexis Huntey totaling eight kills overall.

The Bulldogs also received 18 digs from Huntey along with 13 by libero Danielle Dowd, 11 from Vander Meer and 10 by sophomore setter Stephanie Sikorski. She also had 37 assists in the encounter for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State posted 66 digs, 44 kills and three service aces along with three service errors. FSU also came up with two solo blocks and eight assisted efforts, including a solo and three assists at the net by junior Caroline Heitzman.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals were paced by Kelsey Ferla's nine kills. Makenzie Frodle added five kills while Kelly Vellucci contributed 24 assists and Brooke Tiller netted 13 digs to go with 10 by Kate Czopek.

SVSU totaled 52 digs, 34 kills, 12 block assists and two aces along with five erfors at the service line and 26 attack errors.

The loss was only the second of the season for the Cardinals, who fell to 3-2 overall. FSU also improved to 3-2 overall with both of the Bulldogs' setbacks this campaign to teams currently ranked among the top five in the nation.

Ferris State continues GLIAC action by visiting Wayne State on Saturday (Sept. 13) for a 2 p.m. (ET) league match in Detroit. FSU then returns to Big Rapids to host Walsh in its home opener next Friday (Sept. 19) evening beginning at 7 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.
