#22 Ferris State Dominates Northern Michigan To Complete Weekend Volleyball Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 22nd-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad recorded a big Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home win over visiting Northern Michigan to cap a weekend sweep on Saturday (Oct. 25) afternoon inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs beat the Wildcats 3-0 in the league home encounter with decisive wins of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-14 on the day. FSU improved to 15-5 overall and 12-1 in the GLIAC with the triumph.

Northern Michigan had started the week tied with the Bulldogs for second place in the GLIAC North Division with only a single conference loss, but fell to 10-12 overall and 10-3 in league play following two-straight setbacks at divisional leader Grand Valley State and FSU.

In the win over the Wildcats, Ferris State dominated the opening frame, hitting .353 and holding NMU to a -.250 attack figure. The Wildcats also failed to post a positive attack percentage in the second set as they posted a -.091 showing compared to FSU's .160 figure. Finally, in the third and final frame, the Bulldogs hit a contest-best .409 with NMU posting a .222 mark.

Overall, Ferris State tallied a .297 hitting figure on the afternoon with NMU wrapping up the match at -.013 for the day.

Senior outside hitter Courtney Rehm keyed the Bulldogs' successful win with nine kills and only a single error on 18 total attempts. Meanwhile, junior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman added five kills in a balanced effort with both juniors Alexis Huntey and Megan Vander Meer netting four kills each.

Ferris State totaled 29 kills and 10 errrors on 64 attacks while also recording 34 digs, 10 aces and only five service errors to go with eight blocks.

Rehm led FSU with eight digs, junior libero Danielle Dowd had seven digs and Huntey posted six for Ferris State. Sophomore setter Stephanie Sikorski registered 22 assists and five digs to aid the lineup with Rehm garnering a match-high four aces and Dowd adding three.

On the Northern Michigan side, Madison Whitehead finished with a squad-best eight kills and Alex Larsen chipped in six. Meghan Seyour had 15 assists while a pair of players had four digs. NMU's final numbers included 19 kills and 20 errors on 76 attacks with 21 digs, five aces and nine service mistakes.

Ferris State played a total of 13 different players in the match while notching the win, which came on the heels of an identical 3-0 sweep of Michigan Tech on Friday (Oct. 24).

The Bulldogs will conclude their three-match homestand by hosting archrival Grand Valley State on Tuesday (Oct. 28) night inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena starting at 7 p.m. (ET). The Lakers posted a 3-1 win over FSU earlier this year in Allendale and lead the Bulldogs by a single victory atop the GLIAC North Division entering the showdown.
