Ferris State's Caroline Heitzman Named To NCAA Regional All-Tourney Team

Big Rapids, Mich. - Following her performance in helping the nationally-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team to the regional semifinals for the fourth-straight year, junior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman (Newaygo/Fremont) was tabbed to the 2014 NCAA Division II Midwest Region All-Tournament Team.

Heitzman tallied 14 kills in the Bulldogs' 3-1 regional quarterfinal-round win over Lewis (Ill.) last Thursday (Nov. 20) in Allendale before coming back to record seven kills in FSU's 3-0 setback to eventual regional champion Grand Valley State in Friday's (Nov. 21) regional semifinals. For the weekend, she also hit .312 or better in both outings and had just two attack errors in each match.

It marked the second week in a row in which Heitzman earned all-tournament team accolades as she was previously named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Tournament Team in Allendale the previous weekend (Nov. 15-16) as FSU claimed the tourney crown.

Additionally, Heitzman also earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors this fall and was one of five Bulldog student-athletes to receive all-conference laurels.

The Bulldogs, who were making the school's fourth-straight and 19th overall NCAA Tournament appearance, finished the 2014 campaign with a 24-6 overall record. FSU also won a share of the GLIAC Regular-Season Championship and claimed the school's second-ever GLIAC Tournament title by beating GVSU in the tourney title match.

This year marked the 13th time in 19 seasons under head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm in which FSU has claimed at least 20 victories in a campaign. The Bulldogs have also reached the NCAA-II Tournament 19 times and made 17 consecutive GLIAC Tournament appearances in the stretch.
